Founded in 1985 by Singapore’s leading banks, NETS is a recognised player on the Asia-Pacific payments landscape, offering a full suite of products and services spanning the entire electronic payments spectrum.
Apart from running Singapore’s online debit network, or EFTPOS, NETS offers the NETS CashCard, the nation’s ubiquitous multi-purpose stored value card. Its wholly-owned subsidiary, eNETS, is Singapore’s largest online payments gateway.
With an ambition to be Asia’s electronic payments leader, NETS is actively pursuing growth opportunities and partnerships across Asia and has been working with companies in Asia, including China, Hong Kong and South-east Asia, to bring the convenience of NETS payment solutions to their markets.
NETS has established a foothold in China with the setting up of Shanghai Commercial High and New Technology Development Co., Ltd. (ShangTech), a subsidiary that provides Commercial Cards Services in Shanghai and ZheJiang province.
As part of its regional expansion drive to become Asia’s integrated payments gateway, NETS has put initiatives in place for network inter-operability with its counterparts in China, Vietnam and Malaysia. Since January 2005, China UnionPay (CUP) cards issued in China can be used on NETS’ EFTPOS and shared-ATM network in Singapore. Internet Banking users of CUP will also be able to make online purchases at Singapore merchants through eNETS and vice-versa.
