Pipa Farm and Teahouse Demonstration

The Spring weather is always pleasant for family outings. Farm visits are always a popular family activity among city dwellers such as Singaporeans.
About 50 Singaporeans set off at 0700hrs from Raffles City. The pipa plantation owners introduced their farming methods and invited us to pluck the pipa. As it then the best time of the year, we tasted delicious pipa fresh from the tree.
Our next stop was a tea leaves appreciation and teapot making.
It was a great opportunity for a family outing to experience farm life and enjoy the clear crisp air of Suzhou suburbs.

Joint Chamber Table Fair

Corporate members of SSBA-SCS, Essential Finance, LSC China, Consilium Shanghai, SBA Stone Forest Corp Advisory and REDEV Properties participated in the 2010 Joint Chambers Trade Fair on May 24th, 2010, at the Shanghai Center, Nanjing Road.
The Joint Chambers Trade Fair is an exhibition providing fantastic marketing and networking opportunities for Member Companies to show and demonstrate their new products and services. It is also a platform for around 50 foreign companies invited from different chambers to exchange the business experience and opinions on the developing economic environment, there are exhibitors from Financial Consulting, trading, HR, Media, logistics and so on industry. There are around 350 visitor attend this Table fair. Individual visitors expressed this event is a good chance for them get to know new companies, new products and meet future Business Partners

Family Brunch

The April weather in Shanghai is always balmy and ideal for family gathering in the outdoors. On Sat 24 April, SSBA-SCS with the support of OSU, organized a Family Brunch at Orang-3 restuarant. Over 220 adults and children attended this fun-filled event. After brunch in the sun, Orang-3 organized a Malay dance, Hawaiian dance and Salsa. The next activity was the Children Art Competition. There were a few pieces that was well thought and well drawn considering their age. It was definitely a happy family day with lots of children running about and screaming in joy.

Annual Election

About 90 members and 100 proxies were present at our Annual Election held on Sun 28 Mar 2010 at Frankie's Place.
There were 6 candidates comprising Steven Joo, Charlotte Hsu, Joseph Sze,Ronny Lee, Ng Hsian Pin and Darren Wong.
The election was conducted by Liane Ong of IES. Steven Joo, the current president, won the most votes. Supported by the rest of the candidates, he will be the president of the exco 2010-11. The term of this exco shall be 1 Apr 2010 to 30 Mar 2011.

SSBA-SCS AGM cum Yuan Xiao Dinner

SSBA-SCS held its Annual General Meeting for 2009/2010. During the AGM, Steven Joo, president SSBA-SCS 2009/2010, presented the achievements and events organized by the club as well as the audited financial statements ending 31 Dec 2009.
Subsequently the 6 candidates running for election for Exco 2010/2011 was introduced. The election will be held later on this month.
From there, 2 comperes from SHEN took over the stage to announce the start of the of the Yuanxiao Dinner. We started with the Yu Sheng dish and the dining hall was alive with well wishes to each other.
There were lantern puzzles and quizzes on the tradition of Yuan Xiao. These games were both fun, interactive and educational.
To end this auspicious day, we gathered to the nearby garden for a 30 –minute firecracker and fireworks display.
We thank OSU and SAPB for their kind sponsorship to this event and we wish everybody a Happy and Prosperous 2010.

Parent-Child Interaction Farmyard Tourism

After the opening up of the Chongming Changjiang tunnel-bridge on the 31st of October 2009, the tourists have been flocked at the picaresque island which is the biggest in Shanghai----Chongming Island. On Saturday morning, approximately 30 SSBA members gathered at Raffles City heading for Chongming to appreciate the beauty of the nature, and enjoy the pleasure of farming.
Upon arrival, we visited some green house, and farm engineer of YMT acted as a tourist guide for us. He took us around YMT, and gave us a detailed introduction of organic vegetables, such as celery cabbage, pakchoi, carrot, etc. It is the first time that we have seen the organic vegetables on our own. What expressed us most are the beautiful scenery and the natural environment which the people who are living at centre area of the city could not sense it. After that, we had a healthy lunch, all of which are organic vegetables. In the end, we experienced the farming life that we pulled up the radish. Every one of us has a very happy day.
Though, it was only a one-day trip, it made the family members closer to each other, and made every one of us closer to the nature. Environmental problems and Crisis of food are more and more serious than before we should take care of our life.
In one word, it was a meaningful day.
